The time has finally come when we get to go offshore fishing!! Our friends own a boat and house at the coast so they let us stay and take us fishing with them. Unfortunately, the wife was not feeling too good so she ended up not going with us, but her cousin went instead. My husband and I took his niece with us for the weekend and she had a blast. We took her last year for the first time and she was hooked (ha! get it? lol). We usually go about 30 miles out to where the oil rigs are so we can tie up and let the guys go diving and spear fishing. I’d say it was a pretty successful trip. The guys ended up shooting 2 pompanos and 2 amberjacks and then we stopped in state waters to get our red snapper limit (20 fish). We did see a couple of sharks hanging around a little ways behind the boat, but they never got too close to the boat. Needless to say, we didn’t do much swimming lol.
There were a few birds that would land on the boat and go down into the cabin and we would have to chase them out so they didn’t make a mess, but there was one that was super friendly. It just sat on the boat and let us pet it and our niece was even able to pick it up. I’m guessing those birds get so used to humans because of the workers on the rigs. After we got back to land, we jumped in our friend’s pool and enjoyed a few beers until it was time to go eat. We cleaned a couple of the red snappers and took them to a local restaurant to have them cooked (grilled/fried). Sunday, we got up and cleaned the boat and the rest of the fish we had gotten on our trip and separated it between everyone to take home. We had fish tacos with the leftover fish from Saturday night and enjoyed the little time we had left there. We cannot wait to go back!
I hope you enjoyed this post and that you have a bad Ash day!! 🙂
